In response, Velara and the Thistles revealed a dangerous secret: they had been sheltering fugitives, including none other than Lyrian Brightwind, the former High Banker of Lusteris, ousted by Eirik Ravenskald in a sham election.
The party met Lyrian—a young, striking half-elf—who revealed the location of the access amulet needed to enter the Emerald Bank’s most secure vault, where the Hammer of Elandria presumably lay. The group agreed to infiltrate the Emerald House to retrieve it.
Disguises and deception were the tools of the day. With hoods drawn and Momeline hidden in a cart, the party entered the shopping district unnoticed. Then, they blended in with commoners visiting the Emerald House for tours. Lirielle used Disguise Self to impersonate a generic noblewoman, Momeline posed as Lirielle and Dravencoles’ daughter, while Ferinthria acted as a hooded servant. They intimidated guards into granting them access to the Emerald Suite, then advanced to the main office. Ferinthria rendered Momeline invisible, distracting a guard with a feigned interest in the office’s layout, while Lirielle “accidentally” dropped her scarf.
Once alone, Momeline discovered the jade-inlaid safe hidden behind a painting. As the lock clicked and a magical timer began, she recalled a comment from Eirik about the number 34. With just four seconds left, she cracked the safe. Inside was the amulet.
The party exited the building without raising alarm. Back at the Thistle estate, they began planning their boldest move yet: robbing the Emerald Bank itself.
With Lirielle disguised as Eirik Ravenskald, the group stormed the bank. Animated armor guards attacked, but the party quickly dispatched them. Momeline maneuvered through a laser-trapped hallway with remarkable grace, but found the final door impossible to pick. Instead, she unlocked an adjacent room and grabbed a hoard of gold. Realizing they were looting a bank—not just pursuing the hammer—they chose to leave the gold and focus on their mission.
Meanwhile, Ferinthria unfurled her aasimar wings and soared effortlessly through the lasers, a rare moment of grace from the party’s clumsiest member. She cracked the door’s lock, deactivating the lasers and revealing the hammer.
Chains bound the weapon—clearly enchanted. Lirielle identified a frost vulnerability, and with Ferinthria’s help, shattered the bindings. Dravencoles caught the hammer midair, but it radiated a cold, unnatural aura.
Then the alarms blared.
Zahir Tariq, leader of the Obsidian Army, arrived with a garrison of guards. Lirielle, still disguised as Eirik, attempted to bluff her way out, misnaming Zahir as “Zahoo” and “Zaboomafoo” in perfect Eirik fashion. The ruse nearly worked—until Momeline appeared, breaking the illusion.
Zahir ordered his men to strike. A brutal fight ensued. Ferinthria unleashed a devastating fireball, obliterating many guards. Dravencoles and Momeline took down Zahir with hammer and blade. Lirielle incinerated attackers with Burning Hands, but reinforcements continued flooding in.
Just as hope dwindled, an explosion rocked the chamber. A new tunnel opened—and through it came Velara, Lyrian, and the Black Thorns, here to extract the party. They fled into the stables, Zahir hot on their heels. Mounting horses, the party galloped into the night, vanishing into the city streets with the hammer in hand.
