Description
Jorin Blackbarrel is a broad-shouldered human in his mid-forties with a thick black beard that gives him his surname. His arms are like tree trunks, built from years of hauling kegs and breaking up tavern brawls. He has a weathered, ruddy face and small, shrewd eyes that miss nothing—especially not an unfinished mug.
He dresses practically: a stained apron over simple clothes, sleeves rolled up to reveal forearms covered in old scars and newer burns from the kitchen.
Personality
Jorin has a booming laugh that fills his tavern and a temper to match when mugs go unfinished or tabs go unpaid. He’s gregarious with paying customers, generous with regulars, and ruthless with those who cross him. He treats the Gilded Dragon as an extension of himself—insult his ale, and you’ve insulted his mother.
Beneath the jovial tavern-keeper persona, Jorin is a shrewd businessman who understands that coin flows through the underground as readily as his ale. He’s willing to deal with anyone—criminals, nobles, city guard—as long as the gold is good and the trouble stays manageable.
Story
The party first encountered Jorin in Session 32 - Secrets Beneath the Dragon when he caught them in his cellar and offered poisoned wine to erase their memories—though Momeline and Dravencoles saw through the trick.
In Session 33 - The Underground Revealed, Jorin led the party into the tunnels beneath the Gilded Dragon Tavern at two in the morning—then betrayed them to Cassira Velthorn. He apologized before the ambush, saying he couldn’t risk outsiders exposing the underground. While the party was imprisoned at The Golden Grain Bakery, Jorin visited to apologize again, revealing that Greymoor was part of the underground and should have known better than to involve them.
